Aim and purpose
The Collection Map of Finnish University Libraries is a project launched in 2003 by the Council for Finnish University Libraries, funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education, to improve the availability and coverage of research materials in university library collections. The idea is to show the collection profiles of different university libraries as a whole and to give an overall picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the libraries research materials by subject. In fact, the project reflects the collection co-operation of the Finnish university libraries and the national resource library system going back to the1970s. Collections of other research libraries may also be included in the Collection Map in the future.
The seminar aims at giving a current picture of the Collection Map Project, highlighting some of the collection services planned by the project. It also aims at providing a forum for discussion by bringing together librarians and information specialists involved in this specific project, as well as those interested in collection and information resources development issues in general by exploring some related projects and services of other countries.
